This piece of willow burl started as a rather unassuming chunk of wood, but the amount of character hidden underneath was a big surprise. The complication of dealing with all the punky grain may have actually been a blessing in disguise, since it’s my understanding that willow wood does not naturally have such a distinct grain pattern. The stabilizing process of applying layer after layer of thin resin helped to increase the grain contrast. This vase is finished with oil and wax, which makes it an ideal heirloom quality art piece, and it measures approximately 10 inches in diameter and 11.5 inches tall.
