When clean wood shavings fly off the lathe at some point the need strikes to save them for later. This was certainly true when I was turning these two video projects back in 2019:
Hawaiian Saligna Bowl: https://youtu.be/y7gufFTbMlw
Box Elder Bowl: https://youtu.be/_u-bRU9dP-Y
I’m not sure why I combined the shavings, but given the fact that these two videos were consecutive, I’m guessing I liberated the shavings from under the lathe in one fell swoop. Much like the Bhilwara wood shavings, there is no doubt that these shavings were long since dried before I eventually gave them a second life. Because the Saligna and Box Elder species are warm colored woods, I decided to pair them with red/bronze resin with a hint of color changing metallic pigment. The final result is a very uniform appearance that reveals so many interesting details upon closer inspection. This piece is waterproof and measures approximately 8 inches wide and 7.25 inches tall.
