Cherry Burl & Resin Hybrid Vase - Waterproof
In many forests in Maine, there are cherry trees bulging with burls, and they form in all shapes and sizes. It is not uncommon for a single cherry tree to be laden with half a dozen burls, sometimes more. Usually, larger ones are near the base, and smaller ones are near the top. So, in my many burl hunting adventures, I have gradually accumulated many of these smaller burls, which generally are best suited for filling in voids in larger burls—my typical wood first resin second approach. In this case, I decided to maximize the visible wood by including only the smallest cherry burls. It may be difficult to tell where one burl ends and the next begins, but this piece was made using 5 cherry burls. As most of my resin hybrid vases end up being ideal for live flowers with water, I used multiple coats of marine grade resin to make this vase waterproof. This piece also measures approximately 8.5 inches tall and 8 inches wide.
